Soy Products
Bookings of soy flour were limited last
week. Prices were lowered with declining
soybean meal futures a consideration.
Most soy flour users, including bakers,
earlier covered their needs through December, or through the baking season. Several
users have extended contract balances into
the first and second quarters of 2020.
Soybean and soybean meal futures declined. Soybean futures traded to their lowest levels since Sept. 30. Uncertainty over
the prospects for a U.S.-China trade agreement weighed. While Chinese purchases
of soybeans have increased significantly
in recent weeks, volumes fell short of what
would be required to give the market a real
boost, and early next year, new crop South
American supply will be available.
The National Oilseed Processors
Association on Nov. 15 indicated the October soybean crush totaled 175,397,000
bus compared with 152,566,000 bus in
September. The number compared with
pre-report trade expectations of 166.8
million bus and was the highest-ever
October soybean crush.
NOPA estimated October soybean
meal exports at 894,817 tons compared
with 844,584 tons in September.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture
in its weekly Crop Progress report said the
soybeans in the 18 major producing states
were 91% harvested by Nov. 17 compared
with 85% a week earlier and 95% as the
five-year average for the date.
The U.S.D.A. indicated net export
sales of soybean meal for delivery in

Corn Products
Bookings and sales of corn products were steady last week. Prices were
lowered slightly.
Individual buyers with an eye to
the calendar as well as forward pricing
opted to extend contract balances into or
through the first quarter of 2020 and even
took initial coverage into April-June.
Shipments of products in high demand during the fall and winter, including muffin mixes and flour for thickening stews and soups, were brisk but were
expected to slow Thanksgiving week.
Corn futures remained mostly
rangebound although the trend has been
downward thus far in November.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture
in its weekly Crop Progress report indicated the corn crop in the 18 major producing states was 76% harvested by Nov. 17
compared with 66% a week earlier and
92% as the five-year average for the date.
The U.S.D.A. indicated net export
sales of corn for delivery in 2019-20 during
the week ended Nov. 14 totaled 788,000
tonnes, up 36% from the previous week

2019-20 during the week ended Nov. 14
totaled 196,400 tonnes, down 43% from a
week earlier and down 12% from the prior
four-week average. The U.S.D.A. said net
export sales of soybeans during the same
week totaled 1,516,700 tonnes, up 22%
from the previous week and up 39% from
the four-week average. China bought

Bookings of food-grade oats flakes
and other oats products were steady last
week. Prices were unchanged.
Shipments were brisk to accommodate increased demand from the hot
breakfast cereal sector while keeping up
with strong orders from other buyers.
Most major buyers had coverage through
March with some having extended contract balances into April-June.
Oats futures continued to advance
and even spiked to new contract highs as
the strike at Canadian National Railway
interrupted shipments of Canadian oats
to U.S. mills. FBN

Rice
Business in whole grain milled and
industrial rice was steady. Most buyers
were covered through December and
into the first quarter of 2020. The same
pattern held for buyers of rice flour and
extruded rice products.
Arkansas milled rice prices as quoted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture
were unchanged, but byproduct prices
were raised. World prices quoted by the
U.S.D.A. were unchanged.
The U.S.D.A. indicated net export
sales of rice for delivery in 2019-20 during
the week ended Nov. 14 totaled 96,300
tonnes, up 57% from a week earlier. FBN
