Applegate launches line of blended
burgers and meatballs

BRIDGEWATER, NJ - Applegate, a subsidiary
of Hormel Foods Corp., is launching Applegate Well Carved, a line of burgers and
meatballs that combine meat with whole
organic vegetables, legumes and grains.
The Well Carved portfolio includes
a grass-fed organic beef burger formulated with cauliflower, spinach, lentils and
butternut squash; and an organic turkey

burger, made with sweet potato, great
northern bean, kale and roasted onion. The
lineup also includes organic Asian-style
pork meatballs made with brown rice,
green onion, carrot and parsley; and organic Mediterranean-style turkey meatballs,
made with lentils, feta cheese and spinach.
"People love meat, and they aren't
going to simply stop eating it, nor should

they have to, regardless of how many highly processed soy- or pea-based burgers you
put on the market," said John Ghingo, president of Applegate. "Well Carved offers an
easy way for consumers to enjoy the real,
clean meat they crave while also reducing
overall consumption. The Well Carved line
shows that better meat is possible."
Additionally, Applegate has added a
new variety to its portfolio of grab-and-go
charcuterie plates. The Applegate Naturals Chorizo Charcuterie Plate includes
uncured chorizo salami, medium cheddar
cheese and milk chocolate-covered grainfree pretzels.
Also appearing in stores this month
is newly reformulated Applegate Naturals
slow cooked ham. The pork now contains
no sugar and is Whole30 Approved. FBN

Fruit jerky maker expands into pasta category Dave's Killer Bread

LA JOLLA, CALIF. - Solely, Inc., a maker of coldpressed fruit jerky and dried
fruit, is debuting shelf-stable
spaghetti squash pasta.
The pasta cooks in five
minutes and is made with one
ingredient: sliced and roasted
organic spaghetti squash. Each
serving contains 30 calories
and 85% fewer carbs and
calories than traditional pasta,
according to the company.
"We make it easier and quicker to

enjoy this supper staple without compromising on quality or taste,
and without any additives or
preservatives," said Simon
Sacal, chief executive officer of
Solely. "Vegetable pastas have
become a favorite for people
looking to incorporate more
vegetables into their families'
diets, so this was a natural way
for us to provide people with

PETALUMA, CALIF. - Amy's Kitchen is offering new gluten-free
pizzas featuring crusts formulated with vegetables, such as organic cauliflower, sweet potato and broccoli. Varieties include
cheese and spinach.

buns in two varieties. The 21
Whole Grains and Seeds Buns
feature the brand's 21 whole
grains and seeds blend and
have a "hearty texture and
subtle sweetness," according
to the company. The Burger
Buns Done Right is the
brand's take on the classic
artisan-style bun.
"Consumers are hungry for organic buns, which
make up less than 1% of the category, despite significant increases
in demand for organic meat and
plant-based alternatives," said Cristina Watson, brand manager for
Dave's Killer Bread. "We wanted to
give people a bun packed with the
flavor and nutrition they expect
