Kyowa Hakko to manufacture HMOs

Kyowa Hakko Bio Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of Kirin Holdings Co., Tokyo, announced it will establish a new facility to

manufacture human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) in Thailand.
The facility will be established at

American Key Food Products
adds organic cassava flour

American Key Food Products, Closter,
NJ, introduced an organic variety of its
gluten-free, grain-free King Lion Premium
Cassava Flour.
The new flour is made through the
company's proprietary milling process
without chemical additives. It has the
same baking properties as the company's
existing cassava flour and takes on the
characteristics of tapioca starch, including
low gelatinization temperature, paste clarity, good viscosity, bland or neutral flavor
and freeze-thaw stability.

Kyowa Hakko Bio's subsidiary Thai Kyowa
Biotechnologies Co., Ltd. in Rayong Province, Thailand. Operations are expected to
begin in the summer of 2022.
The company will supply HMOs to
other companies and for the Kirin Group's
product development. Kyowa Hakko Bio
already has established manufacturing
processes for three of its HMOs (2FL, 3SL
and 6SL). The new facility will mark the
first time they will be produced on an
industrial scale.
HMOs are found in human breast
milk and have been shown to promote
brain development in newborns, support
the immune system, increase resistance
to infection, reduce inflammation and
have a positive impact on digestive
health.

Tate & Lyle names
new innovation lead

The flour has around 7% dietary fiber
content and low levels of reducing sugar,
which reduces acrylamide formation
in baked and extruded snacks, said Mel
Festejo, chief operating officer.
The ingredient may be used in a
variety of baked foods and extruded
snacks, including tortillas, tortilla chips,
bread and buns, cookies, crackers,
brownies, cakes, pancakes, pizza crust
and more.

Victoria Spadaro Grant has been named
president of innovation and commercial
development at Tate & Lyle PLC, London. Ms. Spadaro Grant joins the company
from Barilla, where she
was chief global research
and development officer.
She also brings experience
in senior R&D roles at
several food and beverage
companies, including
Kraft Heinz Co., Mars, Inc.
and PepsiCo, Inc.

In her new role, she
will lead Tate & Lyle's
global approach to product application
and technical services, along with scientific, nutrition and regulatory affairs.
